Conversing in Ropes is an exploration of the collaboration between bottom and rigger, with an emphasis on throwing away our pre-baked plans and expectations in favor of creating rope scenes that are more emergent and responsive to each other.
Day One: Improvised Harnesses
Saturday, October 3 from 1:00-5:00 PM | $300 per pair or $80 to audit
Want to move beyond cooking from recipes and start cooking from the heart? When you start learning to tie, it’s easy to collect patterns like recipes without ever really learning how the ingredients work together. In this class we’ll break down common building blocks of suspendable patterns, and consider how harnesses work as a holistic unit under load to support the body in a variety of positions. This workshop will culminate in students improvising their own suspension-worthy harnesses.
Day Two: Sacrificial Offerings
Sunday, October 4 from 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM | $400 per pair or $150 to audit
In this workshop we aim to trouble the binary of “active” and “passive” bottoming, and instead explore the numerous offerings that live on the spectrum within and between these two modes. This workshop will explore release/surrender as an intentional bottoming-mode that also requires skill and effort, and we’ll consider what conditions are necessary for surrender to be accessed. We’ll discuss how we can communicate, through our bodies, our new ideas and give permission to push into uncharted territory together. Tops will explore tying responsively and grow their capacity for listening to the non-verbal communication that originates from bodies within rope.

Instructor Bio:
I began my rope journey in Phoenix, Arizona in 2012 eager to experience being tied. Shortly thereafter I moved to London, where much of my early rope learning happened. Upon moving back to the US, I began presenting at conferences and intensives around the country, while regularly returning to Europe to further my education. My career as a bondage practitioner, teacher, and performer grew alongside my career as a professional acrobat and movement specialist. As a circus artist I’ve trained extensively in partner acrobatics, aerial hoop. contortion, and hair hanging, and through these disciplines I’ve developed a keen sense of how to explore intensity in sustainable ways and what it means for two bodies to be in conversation with one another. I’ve studied shibari with top practitioners from Japan and Europe, while cultivating my own approach informed by my multi-disciplinary background.
I believe that kink is inherently political, and I strive to bring my politics, my values, and an accountability for those values into my teaching spaces. Imprint Studio — a one-woman, queer-owned and operated studio space — can be found in downtown Northampton, MA, on Pocumtuck land.
