Bottoms Up
Bottoms Up is a series of classes taught from the bottom’s perspective.
While they center skills for being in rope, the content is applicable for all rope nerds, regardless of their role(s).
Prerequisites: just the ability to tie a single column tie (like we teach in Why Knot) and a willingness to learn.
Bottoms Up Topics:
Bottoming 101: Safety, Preparedness, Placement and Tension
Start here.
This foundations class breaks down the baseline skills every bottom should have before stepping into more complex ties or intense scenes. We’ll cover how to prepare your body, what “risk aware” means in practice, and how to read placement and tension from the inside out. Think of this as your starter kit for navigating rope with clarity, confidence, and a lot less guesswork.
Mobility, Flexibility, and Stability
What if you were already “rope ready?”
Rope demands attention, not perfection. This class explores how your body moves, what it needs to move well, and how to build a more adaptable, sustainable base for the ties you love (or love to hate). We’ll talk about active vs. passive flexibility, nervous system regulation, how your core strength actually factors into rope, and stability work to help you stay present in challenging positions. No gym experience required – just curiosity about yourself.
Harness Assessment for People Who Don’t Tie
You don’t have to be a rigger to understand what’s happening to your body in rope.
In this session, we’ll look closely at fit, structure, load pathways, and sustainability – using frameworks & language designed by and for people who feel harnesses more than they tie them. You’ll learn what to look for, what sensations matter, and how to communicate your needs before, during, and after a scene. If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could tell if this harness was actually fine,” this class is for you.
Bottom Led Labbing
Curiosity take the wheel.
Bottom-Led Labbing is a structured playground for exploring sensation, mechanics, and communication from the bottom’s perspective. You bring the questions; we’ll bring a framework to support for testing your ideas in real time. This is a space to refine your body awareness, build language for what you experience, and collaborate with partners in a way that centers your agency and process.
