Join us for a full weekend with Shibari Shawn, a gay rope artist and educator whose work bridges erotic practice, cultural history, and technical development. Across workshops, performance, and play, this weekend invites you to explore rope not just as a skillset, but as a language – one shaped by desire, power, bodies, and context. We’re thrilled to bring Shawn to the studio given our shared understanding of rope as erotic (and evolving) practice.
While Shawn’s personal practice centers tying masculine bodies, attendees of all genders and orientations are welcome (encouraged!) to attend. From the history of queer bondage in the United States to a suspension designed specifically for fucking, we’re confident you’ll find plenty for your personal practice.

TKs & Chest Harnesses for Bigger Bodies: One Choice At A Time – This workshop focuses on adapting chest harnesses and box tie structures for larger and varied bodies, emphasizing sustainability, adaptability, and intentional decision making.
The Blownado: Let’s Play Spin the Bottom – Explore rotational suspension using a face-down configuration that places the body’s center of gravity at the axis of movement. We’ll look at harness construction, upline strategy, and modifications that support controlled spinning and sustained play.
Performance + Play Party – what’s better than spending a Saturday evening watching some hot bondage, then getting into mischief yourself?
Cowboy Rope Bondage: Sexual Agency, Hypermasculinity, and Consensual Non-Consent – A deep dive into Western cowboy rope bondage – its aesthetics, its techniques, and origins within gay subcultures shaped by the repression, hypermasculinity, and coded desire.

About ShibariShawn:
Shibari Shawn is a gay shibari artist and rope bondage educator living in Seattle. He is a member of the Chicago Hellfire Club, Seattle Men in Leather, and sits on the education committee for the MenRopingMen Conference.
Shawn started working with rope bondage in 2016. He was an active member of an SM club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a rope group called Friction Iowa. He has participated in international shibari conferences, including RopeCraft in Chicago (2018), GRUE in Wisconsin (2019), and Tethered to Wifi (2020). Shawn participated in the 2020 Meet the Master online series with Hajime Kinoko, and took online rope workshops through Studio Friction in Denver, VoxBody in Oakland, California and Rope Burn in San Francisco.
He is the founder and lead instructor at the House of Knotty Seattle’s gay rope studio and sex dungeon. He is one of the co-organizers of the RopeLab: Seattle, a monthly men’s rope group for intermediate to advanced riggers tying on the masculine form.
